Mitigation and Remediation of Cadmium Contamination in Cocoa Beans
This PPG aims to develop a regional strategy and a project proposal to establish a set of mitigation and remediation measures for Cadmium contamination in cocoa beans in Latin America and the Caribbean in the context of a new Regulation from the European Union. It will do so through:
- Carrying out a detailed assessment of research and scientific studies implemented in Latin America and the Caribbean, with the view to understand the level of knowledge and stage of development of practices to mitigate/remediate Cadmium contamination in cocoa beans;
- Proposing a framework (regional strategy) containing outstanding gaps and recommendations based on consultation with stakeholders to serve as a basis for the formulation of the project proposal; and
- Organizing a regional technical meeting to discuss the findings of the assessment, consult stakeholders and agree on the project proposal.
A PPG application was submitted by the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO) on behalf of Ecuador, Peru and Trinidad & Tobago. Colombia requested to join this PPG at a later stage. The initial PPG application and the adjusted Terms of Reference are available on this webpage.
