Reducing aflatoxins and producing safe maize

Maize is an important sector in terms of employment, food security and trade in Burkina Faso. However, in recent years, the quality of maize produced in the country has been threatened by aflatoxin contamination. It is increasingly difficult for local maize producers to access international markets as they are unable to meet SPS import requirements. Some consignments have faced rejections in regional markets. The purpose of this PPG is to elaborate a project proposal to increase the market value of maize from Burkina Faso, by reducing aflatoxin contamination and improving its safety and quality.

This PPG resulted in a project that was approved by the STDF Working Group in October 2018. Information on the project can be found here.
