Zoning to control infectious diseases in Peruvian aquaculture
Peru has great potential for aquaculture development for various species. However, the number of Peruvian exports is limited due to the presence of certain diseases.
Through this PPG, a feasibility analysis study was developed to assess the potential impact and technical and economic feasibility of implementing international standards – detailed in the WOAH and FAO manuals – on zoning as a tool to control infectious diseases in white shrimp in Piura and Tumbes.
The cost-benefit analysis determined that maintenance of the zoning for Peruvian shrimp is feasible and profitable. A roadmap is being prepared for the implementation of zoning in the country.
