Improving food safety in the peppercorn value chain
Peppercorn is an important agricultural product for livelihoods in Viet Nam, Cambodia, and Lao PDR. Global consumer demand for pepper has been steadily increasing during the last years, providing economic opportunities to actors along the value chain. However, the peppercorn value chain faces several food safety issues, including non-compliance with pesticide maximum residue limits (MRLs), as well as challenges in the management of plant diseases. The purpose of this PPG is to develop a regional project proposal to address food safety and phytosanitary challenges in the peppercorn value chain in Viet Nam, Cambodia and Lao PDR, in order to enhance market access and increase producers' incomes.
