Carmela Castillo

Carmela Castillo is the Executive Director at the National Authority of Public Services in Panama. She Castillo is a graduate of the Catholic University of Valparaiso, Chile, where she obtained the degree of Food Engineer and holds a Master in Business Administration from the Institute for Executive Development in Chile. Her work experience includes working for the Department of Food Protection at the Ministry of Health and more recently as a Head Officer for the Panamanian Food Safety Authority in different areas such as foreign sanitary and phytosanitary evaluations, as well as imported food and feed sampling. She has been acknowledged for her work as the Panamanian Delegate for the Codex Alimentarius Commission and the Codex Committee on Food Import and Export Inspection and Certification Systems. Carmela has knowledge both implementing and auditing food safety plans based on international standards applied by official food control systems (GAP’s, GMP’s, SSOP’s and HACCP) as well as international private standards related to food safety.
